Seeing Beyond T-Shirts: Promotional Marketing

Do you see a long sleeved t-shirt with a logo on the front and a bunch of logos and text on the  back?  You are right. That’s exactly what it is. But only in its most basic description.

Here at CHH Engraving, we see that as well.  However, we also see much more from a promotional marketing perspective.  Promotional marketing is marketing using common, everyday products and transforming them by printing, embroidering or engraving. Promotional marketing uses these common, everyday items (like t-shirts) to create and promote identity, to promote products and events, and to recognize achievement.

So let’s look again at this t-shirt.

On the left chest is the WAMDA logo, which stands for Western Area Massachusetts Dietetic Association. WAMDA was having a fundraising road race, where each participant received a t-shirt. This t-shirt would identify them as a participant  in the race.

Note the color of the shirts: lime green.  Meant to draw attention.  Especially if you see hundreds of them running, jogging, and walking around the roads of a park.  Perhaps it would generate some inquiries. What is WAMDA? Why are you racing? What will the funds be used for? A simple t-shirt is generating interest in the organization, its mission and needs.

On the back, you will note many corporate logos and names.  This is WAMDA’s recognition of sponsorship.  It is one of their ways of saying thank you to businesses who have supported them. And for the sponsor, yet another opportunity to promote themselves as active and supportive of their community.

So, yes, it is a t-shirt.  And so much more.  It is a great example of promotional marketing at its best.
